Your first week
The order to set things up so it works from day one.
What it is
A short checklist. Do these in order and your kids will have a full list, real money in their jars, and a payday to look forward to by the end of the week.
Why it helps your kid
Most families who stop using a money app stop in week one, because nothing happened yet. This gets you to the first payday fast, and that's the moment kids get hooked.
Where to find it
You're here. Each step below has its own topic in this guide.
How to do it
- Add each kid (Kids tab → + Add a kid). Give each one a PIN.
- Pick tasks from the list (Tasks tab → Pick from the list). Start small: 2–3 chores and 1–2 paid jobs per kid.
- Check allowance and the jar split for each kid (Kids tab → tap your kid → Allowance, split & interest).
- Set up your kid's phone or iPad (see "Set up your kid's phone or iPad"). Or let them use your phone with Kid view.
- Pick your payday and meeting day (Family tab → Payday, and Family Money Meeting).
- Turn on notifications on your phone (the button on Home), so you know when something needs checking.
- When your kid taps Done on a task, approve it on Home. On payday the money lands in their jars by itself.
- At the end of the week, hold your first Family Money Meeting (Meeting tab). It takes about ten minutes.
What your kid sees
Their Tasks tab fills up, Done buttons turn yellow while they wait for you, and on payday their jars fill with a paystub showing where the money went.
Questions parents ask
Do I have to do everything at once?
No. Tasks, payday and jars are the core. Goals, interest, quests and investing can wait until week two or three.
What if I set something up wrong?
Almost everything can be changed later, per kid. Money mistakes are undone with Undo on the kid's Activity list.
