PINs and lockouts
Change a PIN, and what happens after 5 wrong tries.
What it is
Each kid signs in with their own PIN. If someone types 5 wrong PINs in a row, that kid's PIN pad locks for 15 minutes, so a sibling can't guess their way in.
Why it helps your kid
Brothers and sisters share devices. The PIN keeps each kid's money and requests their own.
Where to find it
Kids tab → tap your kid → Settings (to change it). A lock notice with Reset PIN tries shows near the top of their page.
How to do it
- To change a PIN: Kids tab → your kid → Settings → New PIN → Save.
- If they're locked out: open their page and tap Reset PIN tries. They can try again right away.
- Changing their PIN also lifts a lock.
What your kid sees
After 5 wrong tries, a message that the PIN pad is locked for a few minutes.
Questions parents ask
My kid forgot their PIN.
Set a new one in Settings. You never need the old one.
Why does it ask for the PIN again later?
A kid stays signed in for 12 hours, then signs in again. That keeps a shared iPad safe.
